Orphy Robinson

Robinson is an award winning multi- Instrumentalist musician who specialises on Vibraphone & Percussion. The winner of the 2017 Jazz FM Awards “Live Performance of the year’ for his Bobby Hutcherson Songbook project. Winning numerous industry awards & nominations since the early 1980s while also appearing on various chart-topping music that have been awarded Platinum, Gold and Silver Discs. Robinson a Producer, Composer & Music Director has written for Orchestras, Film, TV, Opera. & Contemporary Dance. Robinson was invited to be the 2018 Artistic Director for the Gibraltar World Music Festival and will retain a senior position in the festival organizing committee for two years. Orphy is an associate examiner for the Royal Welsh Academy of Music and Drama. He also sits on the board of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and work across many education organisations in the UK developing music education strategies and tutoring. He has also been the Festival DJ at the Opening and closing events for the London Jazz festival & at the popular “Summer Soulstice” festival. Robinson created the popular monthly event in London Freedom: The Art of Improvisation monthly Loft session, which has been nominated for the 2019 ‘Jazz Innovation’ award alongside nomination for ‘Live experience of the year’ for Orphy’s reinterpretation of Van Morrison’s iconic ‘Astral Weeks’ album, in the 2019 UK Jazz awards.
